The chairman of the Kedington Community Association (KCA) has expressed his gratitude after this year’s Meadowlark raised at least £5,500.

The 50th Meadowlark to be held in Kedington culminated with the main event, the walking pageant and fete on the Great Meadow on Saturday.

The venue was, as KCA chairman Tony Farr, said, “covered with stalls, sideshows, fire-eaters, marching bands and a bevy of previous Miss Meadowlarks.”

More than 20 former Miss Meadowlarks had been invited to gather together on Saturday as part of the golden anniversary celebrations.

The 50th year had also seen the pageant carry the theme of ‘gold’, and saw teams adopting various identities related to the precious metal, from the James Bond film Goldfinger, to Abba (whose ‘best of’ album is called Gold) and a gang of pirates in possession of some golden treasure.

After the pageant the fete was held on the Great Meadow, with a wide range of attractions and entertainment.

The success of the community event led Mr Farr to say: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved with the Meadowlark week and its activities.

“With very special thanks going to the long-suffering Meadowlark wives and husbands of the committee who have borne the brunt of their partners’ fears and worries over the past year of planning for this the association’s main fund-raising week.

“I am pleased to announce that the anticipated outcome of the labours will put at least £5,500 into the Kedington Community Association’s coffers, which will be used for the upkeep of the building and grounds of this hub of the village’s activities and social scene.”
