Pharmacy in Market Hill, Framlingham, evacuated and pair taken to hospital after emergency services called to suspected chemical spill
A pharmacy has been evacuated and two people have been taken to hospital after emergency services were called to a suspected chemical spill in a town.
Fire crews were called at 9.29am today to a report of a chemical spillage at Framlingham Pharmacy on Market Hill.
On arrival it was confirmed that no spillage had happened but a male worker at the pharmacy was complaining of feeling unwell after entering a cellar containing a number of bottles due to be taken away for disposal by a waste company.
The pharmacy was evacuated as a precaution and a cordon was set up while firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the cellar to carry out checks using a gas monitor.
No leaks were found and the scene was declared safe.
The male worker was taken by ambulance to hospital for precautionary checks, as well as another member of staff who also complained of feeling unwell.
Two fire engines attended the incident, one from Leiston and one from Debenham.
