Love Felixstowe Festival: Everything you need to know ahead of six days of activities
Food, street performances, an outdoor cinema and bike rides are just some of the activities on offer in Felixstowe this weekend.
The six-day Love Felixstowe festival kicks off tomorrow, as the town counts down to the Tour of Britain.
A wealth of free activities will take place in the town centre throughout the event, organised by East Suffolk Council and Felixstowe’s Business Improvement District (BID).
Here’s everything you need to know:
When?
Festivities begin at 10am on Saturday, and run through until Thursday.
What activities are on offer?
European cycling booker Kwaremont Travel will organise two bike rides around the town.
There will also be an outdoor cinema, which will show Moana, or allow visitors to tap their toes and sing along to Mama Mia in the evening.
Other screenings, live music and demonstrations are scheduled for the weekend.
In addition, jugglers, street performers will be present, and bike maintenance sessions will be held.
If that’s not enough, kids can be kept busy as Lego brick building exercises will be on offer at the leisure centre. These take place between 10.30am and 12.30pm, then from 1.30pm until 3.30pm. Spaces must be booked in advance.
The Mariners in Trimley will also offer an afternoon of song as crews from across Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex belt out shanties for an afternoon.
On Sunday, Art of the Prom returns, displaying work from 90 creators, with live music and movie screenings continuing.
On Monday, a mobile skate park will visit Beach Street.
Along the seafront, there will be a climbing wall, circus lessons, or the chance for a kick-about with the Ipswich Town Football Club Foundation.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be a business event, created by the BID and Economic Development team, more bike rides will be held, and representatives from Menta will be on hand to explain their services.
On Thursday, the Tour of Britain kicks off at 10.45am. A 10km bike ride and 100m sprint are planned for the day of the race.
The full programme can be found here.
Where?
Events take place in Felixstowe, Walton and Trimley.
How much?
Events are free.
Caroline Topping, the leader of East Suffolk Council, said: “We’re excited for the arrival of the Tour of Britain next Thursday and proud that Felixstowe has been chosen as the start and finish venue for Stage Five of the race.
“The Love Felixstowe festival is a chance for everyone to join in the celebrations ahead of the big day and I would like to thank everybody involved who has enabled this to happen.”
Cllr Seamus Bennett, mayor of Felixstowe, said the event would offer a wealth of activities for the public.
He added: “The programme is packed with activities and entertainment – and that’s a reflection of just how much the town has to offer.”
Felixstowe BID’s Kate Cain described her excitement for the event.
She said: “With six days of events across the town planned, including the welcome return of Art on The Prom and, of course, the Tour of Britain stage start and finish, it’s looking like a fantastic ’season finale’ here in Felixstowe.
“We’ve been attracting attention in the news lately, and this special festival will only add to our recognition, not as just a great seaside resort, but a thriving town with lots to offer.”
