Majisign in Eastern Way, Bury St Edmunds, celebrates 20 year anniversary
A family firm is celebrating 20 years in business after navigating the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Majisign, which is based in Eastern Way, in Bury St Edmunds, is now run by Sharon Johnson and her partner Adam Vaughan.
The couple took over the business from Sharon’s mother Yvonne, who died in 2023, and her step-father John, who died in 2017.
Majisign, which specialises in signage, pavement boards and wooden displays, was started by John, who started out making and selling funeral urns and wooden pots in his back bedroom.
Sharon said the business has grown and diversified over the years and the company is ‘proud’ to be part of the British manufacturing industry.
She said: “We love to seek out new ideas, new products and new markets.
“The variety of our customer base and product range keeps things constantly fresh and interesting.”
“The challenges presented by creative design agencies and clients are ones we relish and the results are clearly presented in our work.”
“All our design work is informed by an in-depth understanding of manufacturing processes and a thorough knowledge of the strengths, versatility and diverse aesthetics of our core material – wood,” added Sharon.”
Over two decades Majisign has worked with some large hospitality businesses, including Greene King.
The pandemic and the impact it had on the hospitality sector was one of the biggest challenges the business has faced.
As pubs and restaurant chains closed, Majisign has had to be reactive and proactive to survive.
Following a rebrand at the end of 2024, it is once again pushing to be the ‘go-to’ for the hospitality sector.
Among those celebrating the 20 year anniversary is Marc Hartwell, who has worked for Majisign for more than 15 years.
Matt Green, marketing director, said: “Marc plays a key role in the smooth running of the business.
“There is very little he doesn’t know about our products. Nothing leaves without his seal of approval.”
Matt said: “I am in my second stint with the business, having returned last summer after a few years away.
“I’m focused on driving the sales we need to succeed—without letting go of the fun, creative side of the role.”
Other Majisign employees with long service are Chris Moore, a designer, and Cameron Butcher, a paint sprayer, who has also been at Majisign for more than 15 years.
