VIDEO: Hogg hails Bury RFC players’ response

Bury St Edmunds celebrated their first home win in National League Two South on Saturday — and afterwards director of rugby Gavin Hogg praised his players’ application and attitude to put the demons of their biggest defeat of the campaign firmly to bed.

The 39-10 bonus-point victory over Canterbury came after tries from Chris Lord (2), Tim Mann, Clement Le Roy, club captain Chris Snelling and Sean Stapleton in front of a joyous crowd of 510 at the GK IPA Haberden.

It was only Bury’s third home game since earning promotion last season, but was an historic occassion, marking the first win in front of their own fans at the highest level the club has ever played at.

The previous home game, against Redruth, had seen only a last-minute kick sailing wide deny them their maiden Suffolk success, having narrowly registered their first victory of the campaign at Chinnor (24-22) the previous weekend.

Hogg’s side, who moved up to 12th, travel to Devon to face early league leaders Taunton Titans on Saturday (3pm).
