Great Britain’s most decorated female Paralypian of all time, Dame Sarah Storey, enthasised the need to continue supporting up-and-coming athletes at the SportsAid lunch held at the Suffolk Golf and Spa Hotel in Fornham St Genevieve.
The 37-year-old former swimmer-turned cyclist spoke to the Bury Free Press after handing over grants to three aspiring west Suffolk athletes in equestrian star Ruth Hole, race walker Callum Wilkinson and clay pigeon shooter Tom McGregor.
Ahead of hoping to be back in the area for the Aviva Women’s Tour, which starts from Bury St Edmunds on Wednesday, June 17, the woman who won four golf medals at the Lodon 2012 Paralympic Games, said she was a recipient of a SportsAid grant at the start of her career, and that it really does ‘make a difference’.
She also gave an inspirational speech to a packed event made up of business leaders and sports enthusiasts, saying people should ‘always beleive in yourself and always aim as high as you can’.
