VIDEO: Bury Town boss on Waltham Abbey win and Tuesday’s trip to Witham

Bury Town boss Ben Chenery spoke to sports editor Russell Claydon following his side’s 2-1 opening day win over Waltham Abbey, hailing their second-half performance.

The Blues had gone behind on the opening day of the Ryman League season after new signing Andrew Cusack put in a clumsy challenge to concede a penalty from which Ryan Blackman converted.

But Ollie Hughes drew the hosts level with a close-range finish shortly before the break, as he capitalised on a goalkeeper spillage.

Bury took the lead when Bradley Barber finished off a fine throughball in the 56th minute and controlled the rest of the half to start their campaign with three points.

Chenery said he felt the win was ‘thoroughly deserved’ and hailed some good individual performances.

He also looked ahead to Tuesday evening’s trip to Witham Town (7.45pm), saying he hopes to have Sam Reed back, and possibly be able to include new signing Tom Debenham for his first taste of competitive action.
