VIDEO: Bury Town boss asks reporter if he can help fill Blues injury crisis
Bury Town manager Ben Chenery was able to poke fun at the despearate situation regarding injuries decimating his squad ahead of tomorrow’s FA Trophy replay at Herne Bay — asking the interviewer if he would be avilable.
Five West Suffolk College Sports Academy pupils made up the Bury substitutes bench for Saturday’s tie, while several players were played not 100 per cent fit and incurred injuries during the game, including John Kennedy, Sam Reed and Noel Aitkens, meaning a very depleted squad will travel to Kent for Tuesday evening’s replay (7.45pm).
Chenery was not happy with the way his side started the match but was mightly relieved to get a second chance to progress in the competition, and remain in with a shot at picking up the £3,250 availabe to the tie’s winners in prize money.
Should Bury, now the only remaining Suffolk side left in the competition, following weekend defeats for AFC Sudbury and Leiston, make the third round of qualifying with a victory, with extra-time and penalties if required on the night, they would enjoy the benefit of another home tie.
A draw at Wembley today has seen the winners of Tuesday’s replay drawn at home to fellow Ryman League club Thurrock, who Bury are yet to play in the league this season.
Thurrock currently sit level on points with Bury in the Division One North table, in third spot, having won 3-2 at home to Cheshunt on Saturday.
The tie would be played a week on Saturday on November 28 (3pm).
