MCC call-up for Manthorpe
Bury St Edmunds all-rounder Dom Manthorpe has been selected for the MCC squad for a Triangular Tournament with Nepal and The Netherlands, writes Nick Garnham.
The all-rounder, who has just turned 21, is one of three MCC Young Cricketers to be included in the 12-man squad for the tournament at Lord’s on Sunday, July 29.
Manthorpe, who signed a one-year summer contract with the MCC Young Cricketers earlier this year, will line up alongside several former international stars.
Also in the MCC squad are ex-England Test batsmen Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott, who both played for Warwickshire, Essex wicket-keeper James Foster, Middlesex batsman Nick Compton and Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene.
Manthorpe, who played age group cricket for Suffolk from Under-11s upwards and was previously with Essex Academy, was on trial for most of last summer with first-class county Leicestershire.
He previously played for hometown club Hadleigh, making his Minor Counties debut for Suffolk against Norfolk at Copdock in 2015.
