Woolpit suffered their second defeat in a row after they were comfortably beaten at home by Elmstead at the weekend.

Winning the toss, the visiting skipper decided to bat first, and his team made the most of the traditionally brilliant surface.

Despite losing Jordan Elliott, who was caught behind via a brilliant catch from Anthony Barnes off the bowling of Nathan Crudelli (5-37), the Elmstead top order ensured that the score was continuing to tick over.

Will Parker bowled well, but without reward, as a couple of chances went down in the slips, but he did eventually get the wicket of Aidan O’Brien.

However, it was Jacob McNaught who maintained the onslaught, and through excellent partnerships with Ryan Vickery, and then Dan White, both of whom scored 50, they took the score past 250.

McNaught brought up his 100, but then was out the very next ball, but the damage had already been done as the visitors reached a target of 325-9.

In reply, Woolpit started steadily, putting on 38 for the first wicket before Jack Rowett was caught behind.

Some good hitting from Cam Greenhall meant that the target was always possible, but when he was out for 35, and opener Parker departed for 62, the main threats for chasing had gone, and the last wicket fell at 199 in the final over.

n In Division Three, Woolpit II (152-7) defeated Brockley (149) by three runs, courtesy of key contributions from Marcus West (46), Geoff Pilgrim (33), Gavin Taylor (4-54) and Rob Gibson (3-34).

n Peter Christie (6-32) took six wickets and Trevor Haynes scored 47 as Woolpit III (160-8) recorded a 19-run win over Felixstowe and Corinthians (141) in Division Seven.
