BREAKING NEWS: Fen Tigers’ Rider of the Year moves on
Mildenhall Fen Tigers’ recently crowned Rider of The Year, Tom Bacon, will not be riding for the West Row outfit next season after sealing a move to a rival National League club.
The club in question is being kept a guarded secret until they decide to make the signing public, but we understand it is a leading National League outfit closer to his Coverntry base.
Mildenhall promoter Kevin Jolly has confirmed that Bacon, a rare success story on an otherwise forgettable season at West Row having gone from starting his first full season in the division as a reserve but ending up riding at number two, is leaving Suffolk.
“I have had my team plans scuppered by the possible departure of one of the key riders I wanted to keep,” he said.
“Some you win, some you lose but we have got to move on.”
Bacon’s displays saw his average shoot up from 3.00 to 4.42 points across the season, leading to him being the clear winner at the club’s end of season awards night earlier this month, picking up the Supporters’ Club’s Rider of the Year accolade (which he is pictured collecting from Paul and Shantel Jenkins).
Meanwhile, Jolly said the club remain in positive talks with Jon Armstrong, one of their most successful ever riders, about the fans’ favourite returning to spearhead their 2016 campaign.
The return of ‘The Mighty Midget’ would be a welcome boost for Fen Tigers’ fans after a troubled 2015 season which saw them eventually pull away from the relegation zone but unable to register an away victory throughout the year.
