West Suffolk Council-owned housing company Barley Homes signs contract with Seamans Building for 13-home development in Rougham, near Bury St Edmunds
A local authority-owned housing company has signed a contract for a 13-home development in Rougham, near Bury St Edmunds.
West Suffolk Council-owned Barley Homes and Seamans Building have signed a contract to build detached and semi-detached homes, including four affordable homes and a new footpath linking to the current right of way between Oak Lane and Kingshall Street.
Seamans Building, which was chosen following a tendering process, is due to start work on site next month.
The scheme will bring much needed housing for the area, whilst also bringing extra income for West Suffolk Council to help support services.
The site will include 13 one, two, three and four-bedroom properties as well as raising income for the council.
As well as homes, the development will be landscaped with new and retained native trees and hedges, as well as planting to the front of the site.
It will also deliver section 106 contributions to education, early years, library, waste, public rights of way and open space.
A Barley Homes spokesperson said: “We are delighted to be working with Seamans to deliver our development in Rougham.
“We have worked hard with the local planning authority to bring forward this site so are keen to start seeing the development progress.”
Cllr Richard O’Driscoll, West Suffolk cabinet member for housing, said: “I am delighted this development will contain affordable homes that are tailored for local residents.
“This is part of the council’s ongoing investment in West Suffolk to provide much-needed homes for our communities to thrive.”
Adam Cummings, Seamans commercial director, said: "Seamans Building is honoured to have been appointed as the contractor for this important mixed-tenure project.”
