Weird and Wonderful Wood festival near Stowmarket is crowned best in Suffolk and East Anglia

A highly popular festival celebrating the many aspects of wood and wood workers at Haughley Park, has been crowned the Best Festival in Suffolk as well as the Best Festival in East Anglia for 2022.

Weird and Wonderful Wood, which will be on again at the park on May 13 and 14, beat more than 700 festivals and other family events across the region in a public vote organised by the East Anglian Festival Network.

Last year after a pandemic hiatus, organisers Sarah Barker, Sue Taylor and their team brought Weird and Wonderful Wood back to Haughley Park - seeing more than 5,000 visitors come each day to enjoy the event.

On winning the accolades, Sue said: "We are thrilled about winning the competition - there was a lot of whooping for joy when we heard the announcement.

"We are really grateful to all of the people that voted, all those who attend Weird and Wonderful Wood and the crew, volunteers, stallholders, workshop providers and performers.

"Without each and every one of them the event wouldn’t bring the magic that everyone so clearly appreciates."

The 2022 event, which included wood related stalls, workshops and demonstrations, was made extra special as Sarah’s mum, and creator of Weird and Wonderful Wood, Tarby Davenport, was awarded an MBE for Services to the Arts and the Community.
