The ‘phenomenal’ success of the Bury Wolf Trail has helped see visitor numbers to the town surge by five per cent.

The trail, which invites the public to find 26 wolves created by local artists hidden across the town, has seen thousands flock to Bury St Edmunds since it launched in July.

Mark Cordell, Chief Executive of Ourburystedmunds, said: “It has been phenomenal.

“We are having to order another 6,000 wolf trail leaflets because the tourist information centre has sold out.

“That takes it to 15,000 leaflets in total.

“It is providing free entertainment for families during the school holiday.

“It can be an expensive time of year for families so a free day out in our town where you can spend most of the day has been very popular.

“The figures we have show there were five percent more people in Bury St Edmunds than last year and the year before.

“I think it is fair to say the wolf trail is the main reason for the increase.

“We are really pleased with how it has gone.”

Mr Cordell said eight of the wolves were still up for grabs for businesses to sponsor.
