Visitors poured into the Elven Centre, in Garland Street, Bury St Edmunds, on Saturday, as its Winter Fayre enjoyed the largest footfall since it began five years ago.

The increased number of visitors was matched by a record-setting 18 stalls, with craft items, cakes and home-made foods on sale.

The fayre raised £600 towards renovating the Elven Centre's 150-year-old roof.

There is a fayre hosted at the centre twice each year, with this year’s November edition having broken all previous attendance records.

There were also items on sale for as little as 20p to allow children to spend their pocket money at the stalls.

Jane Jennison, one of the organisers of the event, said: “Everybody commented on the lovely, positive atmosphere.”

As well as raising money for the renovation, the fayre also seeks to publicise the Elven Centre as one of the town’s most important community resources.
