Why not join Santa at Bury’s Christmas Fayre?

If last night’s Bury St Edmunds lights switch on put you in the yuletide mood, make sure you return for next weekend’s Christmas Fayre.

The annual fayre – one of the biggest in the UK – kicks off on Thursday at 4pm (November 26) with an evening event aimed at people who live and work in Bury. The evening closes with fireworks in the Abbey Gardens.

But the 300-plus stallholders will be back for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, offering everything from woolly hats to succulent sausages.

Most stalls are from East Anglia and Bury’s popular and respected Saturday provisions market will also be held on Friday and Sunday.

There are all kinds of entertainments, from school choirs to stilt walkers, but if you want to raise your voice, there are shoppers’ carol services at St Edmundsbury Cathedral on Saturday and Sunday at 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

Santa and his reindeer are in the Abbey Gardens, but if you want to come by similarly green transport, St Edmundsbury Council has joined with Hawstead’s Maglia Rosso cycle shop to offer free bike storage at Cornhill Walk shopping centre.

Additional car parking is available on Saturday and Sunday at West Suffolk College, Greene King’s Cullum Road car park and council’s car park at Olding Road and Western Way. Park and ride will run from Claas UK, off the A14 at Saxham, from Friday to Sunday and the Bury Rugby Club will be available on Saturday.
