West Suffolk College lecturer Helen steps up her charity bra mission

After collecting nearly 2,000 bras in the last two years to support a vital breast cancer charity, beauty lecturer Helen Moye has stepped up her mission.

The 46-year-old, of Bury, is on the hunt for 1,500 unwanted bras over the next year which will be given a new lease of life for women in developing countries. The initiative will also raise funds for charity Against Breast Cancer to support its research into a vaccine for the condition.

She has launched her appeal in October as it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and bras can be taken to All Over Beauty, in West Road, and the In Vogue Salon at West Suffolk College.

Miss Moye, who is a lecturer in beauty and reflexology at the college and works at All Over Beauty, lost her friend Ann Staines to breast cancer 10 years ago. She said: “The sad thing is that everyone is affected by cancer and women are unfortunatley more likely to get breast cancer. Everyone has either experienced it themselves or know someone who has so it resonates.”

Throughout October, she has organised fund-raising activities at All Over Beauty. They include a pick a bra game, a £5 donation by the salon for every full body lava shell/hot stone massage and a £1 donation by the salon for every pink nail polish chosen/purchased.
