Ipswich Witches new signing Keynan Rew has horror crash in Australia

A speedway rider set to join the Ipswich Witches for the British season in just over three months is in a race against time to be fit after a horror crash in Australia.

Keynan Rew, 19, who is also Australian Under-12 champion, suffered two small fractures in his neck and one in his back after he hit the fence racing in his homeland at the North Brisbane Solo Masters.

On the Ipswich Witches website, when the news was released that the Queenslander had signed for the new Premiership season at the beginning of December, Keynan said both he and the Witches were keen to get his deal done.

He said: "My career so far has been based mainly in Europe. I haven’t done anything in the UK yet so probably not a lot of people know me there.

"From what I have seen and heard it is a very professional club and the management were great to deal with. It very easy and simple to get a contract done which made life simple and made me excited to join the team."

The rider will be based in Poland throughout the season as he hopes to score well in his debut season in Britain.

He added: "I will be based in Poland, living in Leszno and will be there with my mechanic and workshop for Poland, so I will be living there and flying in and out.

"I would like to be scoring well in Poland and the UK. It is my first season in the UK, so I don’t have the biggest expectations, but I have goals and I want to be scoring well there and I have the personal goal to race in SGP2 and do well in that."

On the Ipswich Witches twitter feed, it said he was mobile and has been advised to have a two-month recovery period.
