Suffolk Trading Standards warning over man 'attempting to sell mattresses door to door' in Bury St Edmunds
Suffolk Trading Standards has issued a warning about a man attempting to sell mattresses door to door in Bury St Edmunds.
The watchdog received reports of a man in a white van calling at properties on the Mildenhall and Westley estates in Bury during the afternoon of Monday, July 29.
A spokesman said: "The man was said to have been using aggressive sales tactics to sell a double mattress.
"We liaised with police, who had also received reports, and a police patrol was sent to the area but the van was no longer there. We would advise residents to stay vigilant and not to buy.
"We have concerns about the quality and safety of the mattresses being sold.
"We recommend only buying from reputable retailers and internet companies that you’ve either heard of or can check customer reviews."
He added that anyone who is approached should politely decline and try to make a note of any details such as a company name, phone number and the registration number plate of the vehicle.
These can be reported to Trading Standards via the Citizen’s Advice Consumer Service on 03454 040506.
