Vintage vinyls and new releases in Bury record store

A mother and son have opened a new record shop in Bury St Edmunds inspired by one of the country’s most famous vinyl stores.

Rosie Hunter and son Will, 19, opened Vinyl Hunter in St John’s Street last week and are already receiving positive feedback.

Opened in premises which businesswoman Rosie has owned for 20 years, the new venture grew out of Will’s interest in music and vinyl’s recent resurgence.

Will, a former music journalism student, said: “There’s a revival going on at the moment. Now the big artists are releasing on vinyl too.”

Will spent four months working and learning about the industry at famed London record store, Rough Trade.

Rosie said: “There are not many independent record stores in the UK so they all help each other out.”

Appealing to a wide cross section of customers, Vinyl Hunter stocks a mix of vintage and new records in a range of genres from jazz to hip hop to dance, and also incorporates a coffee shop to create a ‘relaxed atmosphere’.

Rosie said: “Buying a vinyl is about the feeling of having a physical item.

“We want people to feel they can talk to us and gain from our knowledge.”

Rosie and Will, with experienced store manager Ross Alderdice, also plan to work closely with local bands to promote their work.
