Vintage market coming to Bury St Edmunds’ Angel Hill and Buttermarket for spring fayre

A new vintage market is bringing preloved goods to Our Bury St Edmunds’ Spring Fayre this year.

The free annual fayre will see vintage clothes, kitchenware and collactables joining the usual plants, flowers and crafts stalls in the Buttermarket and Cornhill areas of town.

Mark Cordell, Chief Executive of Our Bury St Edmunds, said: “The vintage market is a first for this event but preloved and vintage is now one of the biggest growing consumer areas in the UK.

“Here in Bury St Edmunds we have seen a number of vintage shops open in the last couple of years and we have various charity shops, which have helped boost the general appetite for sustainable clothing and home décor.”

Vintage furniture shop House of Heritage opened on Garland Street in 2021 and Luna House Preloved & Vintage Boutique started on Buttermarket in 2022.

The event on May 28 and 29 will include the return of the urban beach near Moyses Hall Museum and a series of virtual reality games, as well as a helter-skelter, roundabout and astronomy area. Arc shopping centre will host games of table football and mini golf.

Mr Cordell continued: “I’m also delighted that we are able to bring back the very popular urban beach for the first time since the pandemic.

“It’s always been hugely popular at our previous events. As ever, we’ll have deckchairs and a Punch and Judy show to enhance the feeling of being at the beach – without having to drive more than 40 miles to the coast.”

The fayre will run from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, May 28 and Bank Holiday Monday, May 29.
