A village hall has been transformed in £150,000 renovation project involving hundreds of people
Brockley Village Hall has received much-needed improvements including a new pitched tiled roof, flooring, jet washed walls as well as new furnishings and projectors installed.
Work on the project, which involved more than 300 people, began last September and the High Sheriff of Suffolk Edward Creasy opened the community building last Friday.
Whilst the main structure of the hall remains the same, its new roof, flooring and jet washed walls are just a few of the changes that the building has undergone.
Ian Robertson, chairman of the village hall trustees, said the venue will be 'amazing for the people of Brockley.'
He added: "We originally planned to just paint the walls, change the furniture and get a new roof but thanks to the funding we managed to secure, the building looks completely different."
Seven organisations funded the revamp including the National Lottery, Green Suffolk Fund, Bernard Sunley Foundation and ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England). Further funding came from Brockley Town and Poor charity which donated £53,000, Brockley Parish Council gave £20,000 and Brockley Community Council contributed £10,000.
Work on the building began in September 2020 and the interior design work for the building was completed by Rosie Johnson and her team.
Whilst the village hall will remain home to its previous clubs such as carpet bowls, there is hope that renovation's will see the hall become home to a variety of new groups overtime and is now available for hire.
