Palmers Stanton Bakery in The Street set to close on March 22

A village bakery is preparing to shut its doors next month after serving customers for decades.

Stanton Bakery (also known as Palmers) in Stanton, near Bury St Edmunds, will close on March 22.

Kieron Palmer, who owns Palmers bakeries, in Haughley, Stowmarket and Woolpit, confirmed the Stanton shop is the only one closing.

“Palmers Bakery is unaffected and we continue to trade as we have done the last 155 years,” he said.

Kieron said Palmers lease the Stanton shop, in the street.

The family that runs it has ended this lease after 35 years - due to personal circumstances.

Kieron said: “The shop in Stanton was the Millers Bakery until the 1990s when Palmers took it over and leased it from the Miller family.

“The rest of Palmers Bakery is unaffected by the closure and continues to trade as normal.”
