Updated: Air ambulance lands on A14 at Bury after crash

The A14 was closed this morning to allow the air ambulance to land following an accident in which a man was critically injured.

Police say the accident involving a Volkwagen Golf near the Tesco roundabout sliproad closed the westbound carriageway at about 9.15am,

The eastbound carriageway was closed a short time later to allow the East of England Air Ambulance to land..

A volunteer critical care paramedic from the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) charity worked with a team from the East Anglian Air Ambulance to treat a man, thought to be in his seventies, at the scene.

The patient was later airlifted to West Suffolk Hospital in a critical condition.

The road reopened at about 10.35am.
