Firefighters from Bury St Edmunds, Elmswell and Ixworth rescue two people from house fire in Great Ashfield




Two people have been rescued from a house fire in a Suffolk village.

Firefighters from Bury St Edmunds, Elmswell and Ixworth were called to a blaze in Elmswell Road, Great Ashfield, at 2.18pm.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said the fire began as a result of a faulty gas cylinder being used to fuel a heater.

A pair living at the address, a male and a female, were rescued from the home and given oxygen by firefighters.

The East of England Ambulance Service was also in attendance.

Crews removed the heater and the cylinder from the house and dampened the flames, which had led to a lot of smoke consuming the property.

The incident was dealt with by 3.39pm.
