Trainee historian looking to future after completing course at Thetford museum

A young Thetford historian is looking to the future as her career takes her from the town to pastures new.

Tabitha Runacres has been working as a trainee alongside staff at the Ancient House Muuseum, in Thetford, for the past year as part of a Heritage Lottery Funded traineeship.

Suffolk-born Tabitha completed her Skills for the Future traineeship on March 6, marking the end of her time at the museum.

“It’s been a fantastic experience to be part of a brilliant local museum that has so much involvement in the local community.

“As a child I was always dressed as a knight or other historical characters, but it’s great to actually do that most days and work with fantastic groups of young people.”

During her traineeship, Tabitha helped to run the museum’s history groups and delivered sessions during event days and to school groups.

She also organised the first Girl Guide’s sleepover at the museum last month.

Oliver Bone, the museum’s curator, said: “Tabitha has been a valuable member of the Ancient House team, and it has been a pleasure seeing her progress as a museum educator over the year. Another museum will be lucky to have her.”
