Bury St Edmunds schools get decorative for Christmas tree project

Christmas trees around Bury St Edmunds will have an eco-friendly craft feel to them this year involving schools in the area.

The project, led by Michelle Freeman from The Crafty Foxes alongside chairperson of Bury St Edmunds and Beyond Melanie Lesser, has a theme of reflection and will see children turn wooden log slices into self-portraits.

Each tree will be decorated by primary school pupils with the exception of the Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds’ tree which will be decorated by its pantomime cast and friends of the theatre.

Michelle said: “I am delighted to once again be working with Bury St Edmunds and beyond decorating the trees in the town. We had such positive feedback from the public over the last few years it makes me even more excited to see the reaction this year.

"The children have worked really hard. To have their drawings on log slices up on the trees for the visitors to see is hugely rewarding and I hope they provide great entertainment for anyone visiting the trees.

"I would like to thank Bury St Edmunds town councillors, The Bury Society, Our Bury St Edmunds and the community for taking part and supporting the project.”

This year there will be two new trees in the Abbey Gardens for the project, along with a pair of trees at the Guildhall.
