Bury St Edmunds Greggs branch in Abbeygate Street praised as intriguing location
A Greggs in a Suffolk town has once again made the national spotlight.
The Greggs in Abbeygate Street, Bury St Edmunds, was featured in an article by The Times as one of Britain's most intriguing locations.
It came second on the list, as one of the nation's most notable spots with a Greggs store, with about 2,300 of them in the UK.
The Bury St Edmunds shop gained national attention in 2021 after being deemed 'the fanciest in the UK', in an online article by The Sun which highlighted some of the most 'beautiful' branches of the bakery chain.
The store then made national headlines again after 'furious foodies' slated nationally that it was a 'let down' with 'inedible food', which led to Suffolk News paying it a visit.
In the article by The Times, it said: “Ye Olde Greggs is housed in a 17th-century grade II listed property on Abbeygate Street and the glazing on the storefront dates back to 1797.
"In keeping with Bury’s genteel ways, so subtle is the signage you might actually miss it. One comment on the social community site Reddit lays bare the love for this particular branch. “I grew up in Bury St Edmunds and Greggs was always a proper treat,” the user wrote.
“It wasn’t until I moved to the Midlands when I learnt that its reputation is less than classy in the rest of the UK.”
