Brandon in Bloom take six golds and a silver at Anglia in Bloom awards

A Suffolk town has scooped a total of seven accolades at this year’s Anglia in Bloom awards.

Brandon in Bloom, who are also in the running for the town category at Britain in Bloom on October 23, took six golds and a silver at the prestigious event.

The golds were for the Town Category (6,000 - 12,000 residents), Best Floral Display By a Community, Kings Coronation Display, Public Park, Churchyard, Shop Front Display as well as a silver for Cemetery / Burial Ground.

On the wins, Rachel Sobiechowski, head of horticulture for Brandon in Bloom, said: “It is absolutely incredible to have our hard work recognised. I am particularly proud of the Best Floral Display By a Community award for The Wedge as it is all grown sustainably and organically.

“The standard from the whole region was ridiculously high this year and how the judges were able to decide on scores, it must of been very difficult for them.”

The town was judged by Royal Horticultural Society judges Peter Haynes and Philip Peacock and though Rachel said Brandon in Bloom did not receive feedback on the day, they were given extra tips for the Britain in Bloom judging, that took place on August 2.

She said: “But we received our feedback forms yesterday and the judges noted ‘They have enthusiastic support of their team of volunteers and they continue to evolve, thrive and grow resulting in the achieving a worthy of a gold award’.

“I just want to say a very big thank you to everyone involved because none of the displays in the town are possible without the volunteers creating and looking after them, year round in all weathers.

“We always need volunteers so if anyone would like to be part of a gold award winning team please join in the fun.

“Also a big thank you to Brandon Town Keepers and West Suffolk Council for their assistance with the campaign and finally, a big thank you to all of our sponsors because without their support we wouldn't have any funding to be able to keep our town clean, tidy, bright and of Gold standard.”
