Bury St Edmunds Mayor Peter Thompson suspended from Constituency Conservative Association and Conservative Groups on West Suffolk Council and Suffolk County Council




The Mayor of Bury St Edmunds has been suspended from the town's Conservative association and the Conservative group of two councils.

Cllr Peter Thompson has been suspended following an alleged breach of party and group rules.

His three suspensions apply to the Bury St Edmunds Constituency Conservative Association (BSECCA), the Conservative Group on Suffolk County Council and the Conservative Group of West Suffolk Council.

Cllr Thompson is now listed as an independent.

At the county council, he represents Eastgate and Moreton Hall in Bury St Edmunds and on West Suffolk Council he represents Moreton Hall.

He is the Mayor of Bury St Edmunds on Bury St Edmunds Town Council where he also represents Moreton Hall.

Cllr Thompson is standing in the May elections as a Local Conservative for the Moreton Hall ward at West Suffolk Council and for Moreton Hall on Bury St Edmunds Town Council.

John Davie-Thornhill, chairman of BSECCA, said: "I can confirm that Peter Thompson has been suspended from Bury St Edmunds Constituency Conservative Association following an alleged breach of party rules."

John Griffiths, leader of West Suffolk Council's Conservative Group, said: "I can confirm that he has been suspended from the Conservative Group at West Suffolk Council following an alleged breach of group rules."

Mattthew Hicks, leader of the Conservative Group at Suffolk County Council, said: "I can confirm that Cllr Peter Thompson has been suspended from the Conservative Group on Suffolk County Council following an alleged breach of the group rules."

Cllr Thompson declined to comment on the issue.

He confirmed he was still standing as a Conservative in the elections.
