West Suffolk College's Conservatoire East gears up for new production of Shakespeare classic Macbeth
A new production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth is set to hit the stage next week.
The show - that runs from Wednesday, November 30 to Saturday, December 3 (with a matinee on the final day) - has been created by Conservatoire East, the acting academy that is based at West Suffolk College in Bury St Edmunds.
Seyi Imologome, 18, from Stowmarket, plays the lead role of Macbeth. The performing arts student said: “I feel very honoured to play the role. This is one of the most iconic roles in theatre and the play is so influential. I feel like I will bring a different angle and perspective to this role.”
Acting lecturer Erica Dupay, who is production director, said: “Though written around 400 years ago, the tragedy of Macbeth, a man brought down by his drive for power and ambition, still seems pertinent today.
"It’s really exciting to be doing a Shakespeare play this season. The company are really excited.”
On what people can expect from the production, Erica added: “The language is the same but we have reimagined the time period and melded the supernatural with the psychological. I have always loved this play and thinks it packs a punch as much now as it did back in Shakespeare’s time.”
