Thousands of people enjoy fireworks spectacular in Bury St Edmunds
About 5,000 people marvelled at a kaleidoscopic collage of colour at the annual fireworks spectacular in Bury St Edmunds’ Abbey Gardens.
Glittering tendrils of light electrified the night sky with a rousing technicolor chorus of fizz, sparkle and pizzazz at the Bury St Edmunds Round Table event on Saturday.
The display will have raised thousands of pounds for local causes. Robin Cutler, vice chairman of Bury Round Table, said: “It went extremely well and obviously the weather was on our side. We’re expecting a good amount of money.”
The event boasted 15 food and drink stalls plus fairground rides.
Six-year-old Ria Palmer, who is a pupil at Abbots Green Primary School, won an artwork competition to launch the display.
She was joined onstage by Mayor of St Edmundsbury Cllr Julia Wakelam and Bury St Edmunds MP Jo Churchill.
On winning the competition, Ria’s mum Jemma Davis said: “She was overwhelmed and it was a great night.”
Bury Round Table will run its annual Santa sleigh for five nights from December 5 to 9 in various parts of the town to collect donations.
