Plans for Bury St Edmunds roadside service facility including potential drive-through McDonald's and Starbucks could create 90 jobs
Ninety jobs could be created under plans to build a drive-through restaurant, coffee shop and petrol station on a major Bury St Edmunds route.
Euro Garages Ltd has submitted proposals to West Suffolk Council for the roadside service facility on vacant grassland off Newmarket Road next to junction 42 of the A14.
The plans include a drive-through restaurant, which is earmarked as a McDonald's; a drive-through coffee shop, illustrated as a Starbucks; a petrol filling station with a shop as well as parking for cars and HGVs.
In a planning statement, agent PWA Planning said: "It is anticipated that the scheme will deliver the equivalent of 90 full-time positions.
"Wider job creation and support will also inevitably occur within the supply chain."
The site would be served by a new access from Newmarket Road, next to the junction 42 roundabout of the A14.
Euro Garages is the sixth largest independent business in the UK and runs more than 67 drive-to and drive-through coffee shops and restaurants, almost 200 restaurants and 100 bakeries across the UK.
Last week, property consultants Carter Jonas suggested the Rougham Hill household waste recycling centre could house a drive-through restaurant, hotel or care home.
A spokesman for EG Group said: "EG Group is one of Europe’s fastest growing and most recognisable forecourt operators and we are now planning to bring our modern roadside offer to Bury St Edmunds – ideally located adjacent to Junction 42 along the A14.
"Along with a drive-through coffee shop, restaurant, petrol station and ancillary retail unit, we are also proposing to deliver electric charging infrastructure to support the roll-out of electric vehicles in the UK.
"The proposals will create around 90 new jobs in a range of full and part-time roles with opportunities for further education and training.
"Our plans also represent a multi-million pound investment, creating many more jobs through construction and the supply chain."
