The Crown in Bildeston, between Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury, named best pub at Eat Game Awards

A pub has scooped an award recognising the quality of its game meat dishes sourced from an estate.

The Crown in Bildeston was named best pub at the national Eat Game Awards for its locally sourced meat from the Nedging Hall Estate.

The accolade shines a spotlight on the estate to plate ethos of Nedging Hall, which owns the pub.

Many of the ingredients which make up the dishes served in The Crown are from the estate including venison and game as well as fruit, vegetables and herbs.

Charles Buckle, managing director, said: “I am proud of the whole team.

“We are incredibly genuine about our estate to plate efforts, and I feel passionate about game being enjoyed.

“This award means a lot to us at The Crown; it comes at a time when The Crown is getting busier, and has a real buzz.”

Greig Young, executive chef at The Crown, was born and raised on the west coast of Scotland where game was often on the menu.

Classical seasonal dishes include muntjac scotch egg and fallow steak and chips.
