This is why the police helicopter was on patrol in Bury St Edmunds last night

Four people have been arrested following a police chase in Bury St Edmunds.

Yesterday (Tuesday) at around 6:50pm, officers called on a Nissan Primera to stop on the A14 westbound, near junction 41 at Risby, but it failed to do so.

The Nissan Primera was pursued by police, with the vehicle making several attempts to evade officers by leaving and rejoining the dual carriageway to travel in the opposite direction, before it collided with a HGV lorry near junction 43 in Bury St Edmunds where it came to a stop.

Four people then fled from the scene on foot.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured during the incident.

The four people, a 19-year-old man from Watford, 18-year-old man from east London, 21-year-old man from Hemel Hempstead and 17-year-old boy from Hemel Hempstead were arrested whilst travelling in a Ford Transit van on the A10 in Buntingford in relation to the fail-to-stop incident on suspicion of theft.

All four of the people were brought to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning by detectives and remain in custody at this time.
