Suffolk school and nursery children mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee with parties, crafts and tree planting
Celebrations to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will no doubt leave children with lasting memories.
From crown making and tea parties to ceremonial tree planting and commemorative mugs, our schools and nurseries have pulled out all the stops.
It has been a chance for children to learn about the Queen as she celebrates 70 years of service.
In Bury St Edmunds, Sebert Wood Community Primary School held activities including creating artwork, which is on display at the Arc, making crowns and holding a ceremonial tree planting. “It has been a wonderful day, ending with all the year groups having a tea party outside!” said the school.
Also in the town, children at Springfield Day Nursery enjoyed Jubilee arts and crafts, as well as making decorated buns and biscuits.
Older children didn’t miss out, with Year 7s at Thurston Community College making paper crowns and bunting.
At Risby CEVC Primary School, the PTA organised a Jubilee party and activities included painting bird boxes, biscuit decorating and flag making, with every child given a keepsake bookmark.
Meanwhile, children at Barrow CEVC Primary School came away with commemorative mugs.
As well as a party, Elveden C of E Primary Academy had a visit from Lord Iveagh from Elveden Estate, during which a commemorative tree was planted.
The Eco Team at Walsham le Willows CEVC Primary School have helped to get the Jubilee celebrations for the village off to an ‘exciting’ start by getting involved in setting up a future Jubilee Wood.
