Thetford woman to take a dive for good cause
A Thetford woman is set to skydive 13,000ft for a charity that is very close to her heart.
Sharon Wing will be doing the jump at Beccles Airfield tomorrow for pregnancy loss support group TimeNorfolk.
Sharon understands exactly what the charity provides as she was 26 weeks into her pregnancy with her son Harry in November 2013 when he was born prematurely.
In the fifth anniversary year since his death, Sharon wanted to do something big to raise funds for TimeNorfolk.
She said: “I found the skydive on the charity’s website and thought, why not? I thought it was a good idea at the time.
“A few of my family think I am a bit mad in doing it but they are proud, too.”
She said: “I didn’t know about TimeNorfolk myself until about a year after Harry, but I was lucky enough to have fantastic people around me and the hospital staff were very supportive.
“A lot of people don’t have these things available to them though and that is where this great charity can help.”
The £1,000 target on Sharon’s fund-raising page has already been surpassed, thanks to events including a £344 bucket collection at Thetford Tesco, but she said she wants to get as much as she can for the ‘lovely people’ of the charity.
“It was quite over-whelming, the amount that was raised with the bucket collection. People were really supportive and a few got quite emotional as they told their own stories,” said Sharon.
TimeNorfolk opened its Norwich centre in 1999 but has quickly grown to cover the whole of Norfolk. It currently has three paid part-time staff and about 30 volunteers.
Sharon added: “It is a fairly small charity compared to others, but the work they do is so important. This money will help so many others, which is fantastic.”
