Japanese restaurant Sakura opens for soft launch at Cupola House in Bury St Edmunds
Cupola House in Bury St Edmunds re-opened this week with a completely new look restaurant with a traditional Japanese feel to it.
Sakura is the name of the new restaurant on The Traverse which boasts four floors of dining experience.
The name means cherry blossom in Japanese and there is a host of pink floaty blossoms adorning the walls.
The outlet is running a soft launch for between one and three months and is taking pre-bookings only.
But it is hoped the business will expand to offer take away and walk in fast food as well as a delivery service.
There are between 150 and 180 seats spread throughout the building and diners can enjoy traditional Japanese dining on the first floor where their shoes are stored in wooden boxes and they sit at tables which give the impression they are seated in a truly traditional way.
Customers can also make a wish which is placed on plaques attached to wooden brackets on the walls of the staircase and can see their time capsule wish on their return.
On the second floor there are further tables and an open area which can be used for company meetings or formal events and above that will be a bar area.
The hot kitchen is situated in the basement and the cold kitchen on the first floor and some 35 staff.
The restaurant opens between 10am and 10pm.
Pink cherry blossom and Japanese decorated umbrellas and pictures create a real sense of the land of the rising sun as the Cupola rises again to a new dawn.
