Suffolk Police seen on stand-by at Bury St Edmunds School after gun threat call




A hoax phone call to Suffolk Police this afternoon (November 3) saw a large police presence at a school in Bury St Edmunds.

Police vehicles were seen on stand-by at Sybil Andrews Academy, in Rougham Tower Avenue, after a call regarding a firearms threat was taken by the force.

On arrival at the scene in Turnstone Drive though, police found it was a hoax call and that there was no threat to the public.

Bury St Edmunds Police said on its Facebook page: "At 13:26hrs on Sunday 3rd November 2019, Suffolk Police and the East of England Ambulance Service responded to an incident on Turnstone Drive in Bury St Edmunds.

After the initial response it has been established that the original call to police is deemed to be malicious and there was no risk to the public.

"At this stage a police investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the call to Police."
