Suffolk named as top 10 'foodie destination' as five more restaurants win place in the AA Restaurant Guide 2023




Suffolk has been named as a top ten foodie destination with five more restaurants winning a place in a respected dining guide.

Upstairs at the Mill in Newmarket, Fox and Goose in Fressingfield, Hintlesham Hall Hotel in Hintlesham, The Peacock Inn, Chelsworth, and The Hog Hotel in Lowestoft are among the restaurants making their debut in the AA Restaurant Guide for 2023.

It brings the total number of Suffolk restaurants the publication to 32 - which means the county has made it into the top 10 'foodie destinations' in the UK - in position number nine.

AA Publishing has today launched The Restaurant Guide featuring more than 1,400 restaurants, which have each been awarded Rosettes for culinary excellence by the AA’s professional inspectors.

The top counties in the UK with the highest number of restaurants featured are: London (with 172 restaurants), North Yorkshire (68), Devon (59), Cumbria (57), Cornwall (42), Gloucestershire and Norfolk (38), and Hampshire (36), Suffolk (32), Kent (31) and Oxfordshire (30).

In Scotland, Edinburgh leads the way with 29 restaurants, followed by The Highlands (27) and Perth and Kinross (20).

Conwy is the Welsh county with the highest number of restaurants (11), followed by Gwynedd and Pembrokeshire with nine each.

County Antrim is the 'foodie capital' of Northern Ireland outside of Belfast, with both destinations having six restaurants in the guide.

Now in its 29th edition, The Restaurant Guide 2023 provides food lovers with breakdowns of restaurants by county, including a detailed description of each destination, information on latest chef changes, opening times, sample menu prices and images of many of the featured locations.

The best establishments in the UK’s according to its experts are featured in ‘The Top Restaurants of 2023 section, and marked as three, four and five Rosette restaurants.

Simon Numphud, managing director of AA Media, said: “We are delighted to publish the leading guide to the UK’s top dining destinations, with 150 new establishments added to The Restaurant Guide 2023.

"The restaurants in this year’s guide demonstrate the high quality of culinary experiences across the country, offering delicious food and service of the highest standard.”

A total of 150 restaurants have been featured for the first time this year.

The Restaurant Guide 2023 is available for £17.99 in bookshops.
