Bury St Edmunds MP Jo Churchill self-isolating after ping from NHS Covid-19 app

A Suffolk MP and health minister is self-isolating after she was pinged by the NHS app.

Jo Churchill, MP for Bury St Edmunds, said this morning that the Covid-19 app had flagged that she had been in contact with someone with coronavirus.

As a result, she said she would be self-isolating, but did not say how long she had been advised to stay at home for.

"It’s so important we all play our part to fight Coronavirus, isolation and vaccination are vital to helping stop the spread and protect everyone," she said.

"If you haven’t yet been vaccinated, get the jab."

Health secretary Sajid Javid announced he had tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday, after having attended a meeting at Downing Street.

Boris Johnson, the prime minister, and chancellor Rishi Sunak initially said they would not be self-isolating despite having been in contact with Mr Javid but are now also in quarantine, following a rapid u-turn.
