Suffolk flood warning: Rivers Gipping, Box, Brett and Rattlesden at risk

Flood warnings are covering parts of Suffolk today as rivers in the area near breaking point.

Rivers Gipping, Box, Brett and Rattlesden are all struggling to cope with recent deluge, leading to flood warnings being issued for neighbouring towns and villages.

Those in the vicinity of Stowmarket, Lavenham and Needham Market are particularly at risk and it seems that problems could get worse before they get better.

The threat level in the region is currently listed as Flood Alerts and has not yet reached the next level of Flood Warning, but that could still change if weather forecasts prove to be accurate.

The Met Office is currently forecasting more rain across the region later today, which may yet put further strain on rivers.

Major roads such as the A14 and A12 were closed for a few hours last night and travel disruption could yet increase in the coming days.

Current forecasts do not predict rain on Friday or through the weekend, but knock-on effects from today could still be felt.
