Students and staff at Barrow school hold ballot to choose new logo

Pupils at Barrow Primary School have been getting involved in the election fever sweeping the country by holding their own vote - to choose a new school logo.

The students are taking part in a whole school ballot today (Thursday) to choose the new emblem, picked from three designs by Tom Rowley, a local graphic designer.

Helen Ashe, headteacher, said the exercise was to ‘inspire, engage and connect’ children with democracy, while forming part of the school’s drive to promote British values in its curriculum.

“For the children at Barrow it’s an excellent opportunity to find out more about and discuss Parliament and democracy in the UK and relate these concepts to their own lives,” she said.

The final decision on the new logo will be made by the school’s governing body.

Dr Viv Hughes, chair of governors, said: “It is great for the children to experience decision-making through a democratic process.”
