Stowupland High School celebrates ‘good’ Ofsted report

Stowupland High School is celebrating a ‘good’ Ofsted report after it was judged to require improvement two years ago.

Following an Ofsted inspiection in January 2013, the school was deemed to ‘require improvement’, with the report identifying that not enough pupils were hitting high grades and progress in maths needed improving.

But a new report following an inspection in January this year says that ‘school leaders and governors have responded decisively to the previous inspection report’.

The report says there has been ‘sustained improvement’ in most GCSE subjects and heaps praise on the ‘friendly’ students, commenting on the school’s ‘atmosphere of mutual respect’.

Headteacher Karen Grimes said it was recognition of all the school’s hard work.

She said: “The recent Ofsted report is a just and fair acknowledgement of the achievements of students at Stowupland and I’m delighted that the work of the whole school community has been recognised.

“In particular the highly complimentary comments about student conduct and behaviour are richly deserved - it is always good to see the word ‘exemplary ‘being used.

“Since the Ofsted inspection of 2013, we have been able to make some key appointments, particularly in Maths. “With a new subject leader and advanced skills teacher in place, the subject has moved from strength to strength and this is reflected in the report.

“We are certainly pleased to be play our part in developing first-class education in Suffolk,” she added.
