Statue is stolen from two-year-old boy's grave
A statue which has stood at a two-year-old boy’s grave for 86 years has been stolen.
The figurine stood over Owen Hubbard’s grave until it was wrenched from its plinth between August and October, in Walsham-le-Willows cemetery in Ixworth Road.
Jenny Brand, Owen’s sister, who regularly visits the grave said she was saddened that someone could be so desperate to steal from a child’s grave.
Jenny, 67, said: “Although I was born long after my brother aged just two years old died from diabetes, at a time, 1932, there was no way of my parents knowing the symptoms.
“My mother and father kept Owen’s memory alive in our hearts and my brother, sister and myself always felt we knew him.
“This little statue is of a child holding a bunch of flowers in memory of the last walk my parents had with Owen gathering primroses.”
Jenny, and her family contacted David Murray, Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator to try to trace the statue.
Jenny, from Swaffham Prior, added: “I am saddened that some one can be so desperate to steal from a child’s grave. I just hope that this results in the person responsible realising their mistake and that it inspires them to return the statue.
“A child’s final resting place is the most sacred place a parent who has lost a child has.”
The statue is described as being marble or granite and is 15-20 inches high (see below).
Mr Murray has set up an email address for people to contact with any information, wlwnhw@gmail.com or contact Suffolk Police on
