Wards at West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds, receive new scanners thanks to My WiSH Charity
Newly-donated £20,000 scanners should mean faster results for patients at West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds.
My WiSH Charity has donated bladder scanners to the cardiac unit and stroke unit after working with West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust to ask staff for ward improvement ideas.
Andrea Ballentine, improvement project manager, said: “We were thrilled to get so many ideas for improvement from our staff – many of these were ideas to improve patient experience.
"My WiSH has been instrumental in helping us to implement some of these ideas, including purchasing the bladder scanners.”
The survey highlighted that although scanners were available for all wards, staff had to locate an available scanner, take it to their ward and then return it after use.
Maria Musgrove, stroke unit manager, said: “The bladder scanner is used so frequently. Having to send staff to other areas to borrow equipment is never ideal, as it takes them away from providing patient care and can delay assessment and treatment.
"Having our own scanner on the ward makes such a difference in carrying out prompt assessment of patients and therefore providing the appropriate treatment in a timely manner.”
Sally Daniels, My WiSH fund-raising manager, said: “The improvement event has been fantastic at helping to pinpoint areas that can be enhanced and that’s exactly what My WiSH does."
