St Edmund’s pupils’ profits fund play kit

Pupils at St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School can have more fun a lunchtimes thanks to their own fund raising efforts.

The Bury St Edmunds school’s council – two pupils from each of 14 classes – decided to raise money to buy additional playground equipment.

So they wrote to parents for donations of sweets for three ‘Guess how many sweets in the jar’ competitions. Then they had a ‘Treat Week’, selling ice pops at playtime.

They raised £223.53 which was matched by the Friends of St Edmund’s to give £447.06.

After a pupil poll they bought swingball kits, a giant chess set, frisbees, double Dutch skipping ropes, a bowling set, skipballs, scoopballs, tag rugby belts, quoit sets and a parachute.

Head Katie Copeman said: “The school council worked together with such enthusiasm and determination, providing them with a great opportunity to learn more about the many aspects to be considered when trying to maximise the profit.”
