Special Constable recruitment event in Bury

Volunteers are being sought to help fight crime in the community by joining Suffolk’s Special Constabulary.

The county currently has 253 Special Constables who volunteer their time to assist the regular police force.

New recruits are wanted for the role, which includes providing high visibility patrols and helping to police major incidents and events, with anyone interested in joining being invited to learn more at a meeting in Bury St Edmunds later this month.

Karen Harris, Specials & Volunteers Manager at Suffolk Police, said, “Specials are an integral part of our organisation, they are extremely valued and valuable.

“All of our Special Officers are highly trained and play an essential role in preventing, reducing and tackling crime and keeping Suffolk safe.

Anyone 18-years-old or over, of good character and good health, and can contribute 16 hours a month can apply and full training will be given.

The recruitment event is to be held at Moreton Hall Community Centre in Symonds Road on March 14 at 7.30pm.
