Police in Breckland are offering crime prevention tips to residents following a spate of burglaries in the district.

Nine burglaries have been reported in the last week, including one in Thetford, four in Swaffham and two in Dereham.

Superintendent Dennis Lacey said: “This type of crime is rare, especially in Breckland and we are working hard to catch those responsible.

“Residents can help reduce this type of crime by taking some simple crime prevention measures, especially over the festive period, when it is easy to be distracted and to let your guard down.”

Norfolk Police is advising residents to make sure all doors and windows are locked before they leave the house, keep car and house keys safe and away from doors and windows, fit and use locks on all accessible windows, and ensure they have up-to-date insurance.

Residents are also reminded to call 101 if they spot any cars or people acting suspiciously in their area.
