SLIDESHOW: Thousands flock to Weird and Wonderful Wood

Thousands of visitors flooded Haughley Park over the weekend for this year’s Weird and Wonderful Wood.

The two day event, now in its 21st year, saw a host of craft workshops, street entertainers, musicians, wood workers, carvers and turners showcase the versatility and beauty of man’s oldest natural resource.

This year saw a few new additions to the show including a 46ft replica wooden Saxon Ship, a Shepherds Hut and a giant topiary elephant perched on the hill.

Event coordinator Tarby Davenport said: “It was amazing, a really good weekend. “I would think we had somewhere near 10,000 people visiting the show this year over the two days. “It is up every year - it seems to just go up and up.

“We were just so lucky with the weather - it was incredible.

“We had two days of glorious sunshine. “But then it crossed us on Monday and tipped on us when we taking everything down.

“I guess you can’t have it all can you?”

Tarby said the street performers were among the stars of the show.

She said; “We had an incredible guy from Croatia playing the didgeridoo called Dubravko Lapaine, we had Rory McLeod and comedy stiltwalker Bridy and lots more. It was amazing.”
